Retired Nova Scotia Wildlife Biologist Gets It Done
Curious to learn more about tick populations in his neighbourhood, a retired NS wildlife biologist tied an old t-shirt to a ski pole and spent five years systematically dragging the woods behind his home each May hoping to capture some ticks. He later handed the hundreds of ticks in his collection over to researchers for further study. Read the article on CBC News.

Multiple Lyme Disease Strains Impact Antibody Response in Mice Offspring
What does that mean for humans? The jury is still out. Technically, the jury is still out on what that means for mice offspring. But the fact that infection with multiple strains of Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria appears to impact the quality and quantity of antibodies being passed from one generation to the next is worth noting. Lyme Disease Cases Explode Into Nosebleed Territory in Canada
Not a real place. But when you look at the stunning leap in Lyme disease cases between 2022 and 2025, it might as well be. I'm going to guess that some of that spike has to do with changes in the way cases are recorded, which has a tendency to change over time to recognize many cases that would have been excluded using earlier, narrower definitions. But that wouldn't account for all of it. And all of it is a very big number these days. Read the article on CTV News
