When I first began researching ticks and tick-borne illnesses in 2007, peer-reviewed journal articles on ticks and tick-borne illnesses written by Canadian researchers were few in number and much of the collective understanding about Lyme disease in Canada was the result of research conducted in endemic regions of the United States. It was unclear back then if research conducted south of the border applied to the situation in this country and studies published as far back as the 1980s appeared to show some intriguing differences.

Since then, research initiatives have ramped up across Canada, with an increasing number of scientists in every province -- and representing an impressive array of disciplines -- applying their expertise to unravelling the mysteries of ticks and tick-borne illnesses in Canada. As a result, our understanding of Lyme disease in Canada is evolving as more data comes in and while there are a lot of similarities between tick-borne illnesses in Canada and the United States, there are also some important differences. And yet we're still a long way from being able to make definitive statements about a great many aspects of Lyme disease in this country.

The goal of this website is to gather together Canadian research on ticks and tick-borne illnesses so that anyone who wants to educate themselves on the subject can find evidence-based information in one convenient place.
