Abstract:
The incidence of Lyme disease (LD) is increasing in North America. Cardiac manifestations may be the sole symptom of the infection or coexist with other features of LD.1 Atrioventricular block (AVB) is the most common presentation of Lyme carditis (LC) and usually resolves with antibiotic therapy. Proper identification of this condition can prevent unnecessary implantation of permanent pacemakers (PPMs), as it is generally transient and not expected to recur.2 The chronic sequelae of LC and its potential long-term consequences remain poorly understood. Therefore, we report a case of recurrent AVB in a patient with LC 13 months after appropriate antibiotic treatment.
