Abstract:

We have raised the issue of the specific status of D. kamshadalus to point out what we consider is a mistake in the scientific literature. This is important because mistakes all too quickly may become the current view and then accepted as fact. For example, Schachat et al. (2018) accepted all 146 of the ornate species listed in Guglielmone et al. (2014), except D. kamshadalus, which they considered as a junior synonym of D. albipictus. Again, no evidence was presented for dismissing Apanaskevich (2013), which was a substantial taxonomic work (10 pp.) in a leading peer-reviewed journal (JME).
